I’ll complete my tenure, Wike boasts

The embattled Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike,
has said that despite the ruling of the State Election
Petitions Tribunal, he will complete his four-year tenure as
the chief executive of the state.
Wike also expressed optimism that he would eventually
emerge victorious at the end and would continue to retain
his position as the governor of the state.
The governor, who was speaking to a crowd that gathered
for a thanksgiving service at the Obi Wali International
Conference Centre in Port Harcourt on Sunday, said the
thanksgiving service was significant, adding that he would
not have become a governor if the enemies’ plans had
worked.

Calling on his supporters to be calm, Wike described the
nullification of his election by the tribunal as an indication
that justice would eventually be for him and his supporters
in due course.

The governor’s public remark at the event was the third
since the annulment of his election on Saturday, having
earlier addressed the people through a state-wide
broadcast on Sunday.
He expressed surprise that the All Progressives Congress in
the state was celebrating over the annulment of his election
after condemning the ruling of the tribunal against its
senatorial candidates.

“We will win and I will complete my four years tenure as
the governor of Rivers State. The thanksgiving service
today is very significant because if what enemies planned
had work, I wouldn’t have been governor today.
“The nullification of my election by tribunal sitting in Abuja
shows that justice is ours. I am surprised that some people
are celebrating over the judgement, when they described
the judgement against their candidates at the National
Assembly as judicial 419.

“It is now that they have confidence in judiciary. In spite of
the judgement, we still have hope in the judiciary. I want to
beg you, don’t be provoked; I know what happened at the
weekend is provoking. But, I know what their plans are;
that was why I am begging you to be calm,” Wike said.
Making a veiled reference to the immediate past governor of
the state, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, Wike added, “I was a
minister in this country and I was given the highest
responsibility. And today, some people are struggling to be
a minister; and they are celebrating to be a minister as if
nobody has been a minister in this state.”

Earlier, the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party
Felix Obuah, had appealed to party supporters not to be
afraid, but be strong and bold despite the outcome of
Saturday’s verdict by the state elections petitions tribunal.
Describing the ruling as a pre-determined judgement,
Obuah urged the PDP supporters, who streamed to the Obi
Wali Conference to put their trust in God, maintaining that
the verdict of the tribunal was the beginning of their (PDP
supporters’) glory.

“Wike is the man and Rivers State is a PDP state. We are
still in charge. Chief Wike is still the governor of Rivers
State and he will continue to be the governor till four years.
Don’t be afraid; just be strong, believe in God. We will at
the end get judgment that will favour us,” he said.
Earlier in a state-wide broadcast, Wike had condemned the
judgement of the state election petitions tribunal, based on
the non-usage of the card reader.

“Apart from the reported malfunctioning of the card readers
supplied by the Independent National Electoral
Commission, which placed no advantage on any of the
contestants, the election took place throughout the state
and was adjudged both by local and international observers
to be largely peaceful, transparent, free, fair and credible.

“It is common knowledge that INEC’s card readers
malfunctioned throughout the country in the 2015 general
elections. It is also common knowledge that wherever the
card reader malfunctioned, manual accreditation, which is
the only process, recognised by the current Electoral Act,
was used to accredit voters all over the country.”

Amaechi Reacts To Wike's Loss, Sends Powerful Message

Send email
The immediate past governor of Rivers state, Chibuike
Amaechi, has reacted to the judgement which nullified
the election of Chief Nyesom Wike as the governor of
the state.
Vanguard reports that Amaechi, who is also a
ministerial nominee, reacted to Wike’s loss when he
arrived Port Harcourt , alongside the governorship
candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC),
Dakuku Peterside on Sunday.
Former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has
reacted to the judgement that nullified his successor’s
election

The ex-governor, who spoke at a forum of the party in
Port Harcourt, said those familiar with his political
history know that things sometimes do not come easy.
“You can pay all the money you want to pay but if God
says it is not your turn it is not your turn. It is God that
gave the victory at the tribunal.
“Even if we win at the Supreme Court it is still not yet
time for celebration

“This is not a new path for those of you who know me.
We did not know they had fixed Saturday for judgement,
here we are to thank God,” Amaechi said.
While going rather spiritual, the former governor told the
gathering to turn to Luke chapter 17, and reading from
verse 11, he charged them with the story of one of the
lepers who came back to express gratitude to God after
they were healed of leprosy.

Amaechi therefore urged his followers to learn to thank
God, saying God had been there for him.
In a rather mocking manner, he said he became a
governor at 34 and at fifty, a(the crowd echoed
Minister), adding that he will ever be grateful to God.
Peterside on his part, said he was hopeful that the party
will win the rerun election ordered by the tribunal as he
asked the party members to remain peaceful and
continue to conduct themselves decently.

As FIFA President
Blatter said: “The position of the FIFA president is too
important to be left to just anybody. I have heard of
some candidates who want to take over from me. But I
find the Businessman from Nigeria Kalu very qualified
and interesting because he is not only a businessman,
but a politician with lots of contacts and corporate
experience. He can bring his great experiences to bear
in the running of world football.
“He is passionate about the game. I remember how he
sponsored one of Nigerian clubs to win the CAF
championship twice. He is a man that can take world
football to the next level”, Blatter told the told the Swiss
radio monitored on sunday

According to Blatter, it was in the best interest of Africa
to nominate Kalu because of his deep passion for the
game.
“If Africa hopes to win the support of other federations,
then they must queue behind the Nigerian business
man. Football has developed beyond just anybody
taking over.

“I sacked Jerome Champgne in 2010 so how can he
come back to lead an Association he tried to destroy.
You need a man who can command respect and win
friends for football.

“With Kalu Africa stands a better chance, he concluded.
CAF is expected to meet next week to decide on a

Kalu and Segun Odegbami are the two candidates vying

Buhari, Jonathan, Amaechi, Osinbajo Define Corruption

Corruption is one of the biggest challenges crippling
Nigeria. It is a known fact to every Nigerian that the
level corruption is on the high side.
If you take a critical look, it is glaring that corruption
has eaten deep into every sector, be it in the schools,
offices, ministries and the list goes on. Be it a small or
big sector, there is every possibility of observing
corrupt practices.
In schools students offer bribe to pass their exams,
lectures demand bribe from students. In the ministries,
there is the ghost worker syndrome. In politics, one
cannot even begin to count the number of corrupt cases
against Nigerian politicians.
You see policemen extorting money from innocent
citizens and some have been killed for refusing to give
bribe. At the end of the day, the police calls it
accidental discharge.
The menace of corruption rears its ugly head during
elections, at the court of law, even the churches are not
left out.
Nigeria has been ranked one of the most corrupt
countries in the world.
Corruption can be interpreted by many people in many
ways. We have heard a number of definitions from
Nigerian politicians and some are quite appalling.

– Ex-Governor
Below are some definitions.
President Muhammadu Buhari : The president defined
corruption as the greatest form of human right violation.
He said: “ For the masses of our people, the millions still
wallowing in want and diseases, corruption is a major
reason why they cannot go to school; why they cannot
be gainfully employed; and why there are few doctors,
nurses and drugs in their hospitals and health centers.
“It is the reason why pensioners are not paid and
potable water is scarce.
“In effect, corruption diverts public resources meant for
millions of people into the private pockets of a greedy
few, thereby causing a lot of suffering, deprivation and
death.
“In my view, there can be no greater violation of human
rights.”
Goodluck Jonathan: The former president said that most
of what is referred to as corruption is not really that at
all. He said there is no corruption but mere stealing.
He said: “ Over 70 percent of what are called corruption,
even by EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission) and other anti-corruption agencies is not
corruption, but common stealing. Corruption is
perception, not reality.”
Yemi Osinbajo : Not happy with what Jonathan said
about corruption, the Vice President gave his own
definition.
He said: “Corruption is defined as ‘dishonest or
fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically
involving bribery’. The definition is simple and we all
know what it is, yet Mr. President has spent the last
several minutes of his media chat explaining to
Nigerians what it is, suggesting we are all somehow
confused about this.
“The GEJ presidency has failed Nigerians. The facts are
undeniable. #ChangeWillCome”
Rotimi Amaechi : The former governor of Rivers state
gave his own opinion of what corruption means. During
his ministerial screening by the Senate on Thursday,
October 22, 2015, Amaechi was asked to define
corruption.

Here is what he said: “Corruption is difficult to define. If
they send a girl to you to do something for her and you
sleep with the girl, you are corrupt.
“Corruption is a very wide concept. If people are
contesting a position and you offer your son, brother or
sister an opportunity to hold that position, probably the
person is not qualified, you are corrupt. So, it is difficult
for me to define corruption.”
What is your own definition of corruption?
